Contract Amount: $10.6 Million Owner: Davis-Weber Canal Company Completed in 2010
These projects consisted of installation of approximately 1,400 feet of new 8’x7’ precast box culvert in a narrow corridor in Weber Canyon to replace the deteriorating open channel, replacement of existing intake structure, demolition, and a temporary coffer dam on the Weber River for site preparation.
Project crews worked in winter conditions in one of the coldest spots in northern Utah, in a steep and narrow work area adjacent to the Weber River with very limited access. The installation crew came up with a highly effective installation method that allowed them to install the new box culvert very efficiently, exceeding our expectations. Over 1400 cubic yards of new concrete was placed in these harsh conditions.
The work also included installation of new cast-in-place transition structures, a new concrete retaining wall, demolition of an existing wood flume and installation of new electrical power supply to the canal headwork controls. Owner-furnished radial gates, crest gates, and debris screens were installed. Despite initial permit delays, the projects were still completed prior to the original deadline.
